Oh Joy‘s new single ‘Apple’ is out now and today we are pleased to host the premiere for the accompanying amusing black and white video. Oh Joy are aptly named for their apparent wry bittersweet songwriting, with ‘Apple’ they deliver lush guitars, sea-sawing percussion and big-hearted wistful vocals that stomp into crescendos.
The Dublin trio formed in 2015 over a shared love of Elliott Smith, Nirvana and sarcasm.
Over the past year, they’ve supported the likes of Pinegrove, Vant and Show Me The Body. And you can tell why – the influence of that particular brand of gloomy angst is very apparent in ‘Apple’. It’s moody and dissonant, whilst remaining delicately melodic. Successfully combining that tricky pairing of songwriting sincerity and extreme dynamics, Oh Joy evoke compelling honest storytelling.
