Tracks Of The Week #6

Dark Horses – XIII

Shivering guitars, sleek baselines and vocals from Lisa Elle who paints a ghostly dystopian scene in which every one of us is broken down into data, our individuality and expression stripped back to numbers and algorithms.  ‘XIII’ is released on Tricky Spirits Records. (BC)

Safetalk – Mimic

The Anglo-French trio release their third single ‘Mimic‘ on a new French label Splinter that has been set up by former Ed Banger producer Vicarious Bliss.  Mysterious and delicious with crystalline synths and falsetto sighs it’s nestling somewhere between Mew and Goldfrapp, this glacial track is a psychic call to arms against the forces that seek to limit and contain us, ‘Mimic’ takes aim at those who seek to build walls around both our hearts and minds and our physical selves. Ali Horn – Bloom

His second single after the release of ‘Days Like Today’ in February, ‘Bloom’ is four minutes of spiralling, psychedelic guitars and echoing vocals from the Strange Collective guitarist it’s bold-hearted sound redolent of early Verve and Spiritualized. ‘Bloom’ is released on The Label Recordings and is available now. Loma – Black Willow

Loma is a new musical project which comprises Emily Cross and Dan Duszynski from Cross Record and Shearwater singer Jonathan Meiburg, both acts having toured together last year. Loma’s eponymous debut album is released on 16th February next year on the highly revered Sub Pop label. And in anticipation of this release, Loma have shared with us ‘Black Willow’, the lead single from it. ‘Black Willow’ is an elliptical slice of visceral pop in which Cross’s vocals glide effortlessly over the song’s mesmeric melody. Natalie Evans – In Trees

Small Pond, the Brighton-based record label, recording studio, rehearsal space, and live music promoter has just added the London multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Natalie Evans to its already impressive roster of artists. And to celebrate the occasion, they have just let us hear the promo for her new single ‘In Trees’ which is due out on the 8th of December.  In possession of both simplicity and delicacy in equal abandon, it is the first in a series of singles that will be released by Evans ahead of her debut album on Small Pond Recordings.
