Let’s get it on to Schwervon! And we will be able to do just exactly that here in the United Kingdom as of next week when the two-piece rock band from Shawnee in Kansas finally land on these shores after an extensive trek around Germany on the first leg of their Escape from the U.S. European tour.
Nan Turner (drums and vocals) and Matthew Roth (guitar and vocals) will initially be supporting the Sonic Youth legend Thurston Moore at a one-off, sold out show at The Louisiana in Bristol before setting off round the country headlining their very own tour dates via a BBC 6 Music Marc Riley session in Manchester.
Schwervon! have been around for a number of years now blazing a huge trail with their riffed-up, off-kilter noise-pop and leaving a catalogue of great albums, EPs and singles lying in their wake, the last of which was a mighty fine 7” single out on Brokers Tip Records, a label run by Bob Nastanovich of Pavement and Silver Jews fame who also just happens to be appearing on these live dates as DJ Need A Stack.
The A-side of their most recent single, ‘Blood Eagle’, had Track of the Day on God Is In The TV. The flip side is equally as great. Have a listen to ‘Wrath of Angels’ right here:
