Who says protest has to scream and shout and stamp feet? Not Adwaith, if ‘FEMME’ – half of a double-a side single released 25th August – is anything to go by. ‘FEMME’ addresses the double standards of today’s attitudes to sex and gender in a way you really wouldn’t expect.
Light on its feet, ever-so-slightly twee (but it works unbelievably well, all things considered), syrupy-sweet vocals, a bright melody. About that melody… It makes the lyrics come across as something they’re not, forcing you to listen harder and realise the hypocrisy – however tongue in cheek they are – pairing those lyrics to that tune. It’s not quite the battle cry for the movement, but it could, perhaps, challenge the way people think – even just for a moment. And as we all know, a moment has the power and potential to change everything.
‘FEMME’/’Lipstick Coch’ is released on 25th August, via Libertino Records.
