After an absence of almost four years to the day, Chris Rollen is back. The man who is Pea Sea returns with his second long-player Lonnin Life, the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2013’s The Debatable Land. And to herald its arrival early next month, God Is In The TV has kindly been given exclusivity on one of the tracks from it by those good people at Sea Records.
As with a number of other songs on the new album (and in keeping with much of its predecessor), on ‘St John’s Road’ Rollen reflects upon his experiences of growing up in and around the town of Annan on the north shore of the Solway Firth just a few miles away from the English border. You sense it is a place where not much happens. But as he wends his way down the song’s eponymous St John’s Road and backed by his rattling new band – comprising of fellow UK expats who, like Rollen himself, now live in Berlin and sound here just like some fiery cross between early ’90s-era Richard Thompson and The Cramps – Pea Sea makes life in Dumfries and Galloway seem like the most exciting place on earth.
Lonnin Life is released through Sea Records on 2nd June 2017 and will be available in the small independent label’s shop and to download from iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Emusic…
