Kendal quartet Wild Beasts have unveiled the video for their single ‘Alpha Female’, taken from their fifth album Boy King, as well as announcing a set of new live dates.
The video is directed by Sasha Rainbow, and is filmed in Bangalore, India, in the world of Atita Verghese, India’s first professional female skateboarder. Speaking about the decision, Rainbow said: “When I first heard the Wild Beasts song ‘Alpha Female’, I had the epiphany to film the growing female skateboard scene outside the Western world. In places like Afghanistan, Cambodia and India, skating has not been solidified as a male sport and therefore has had a massive cultural impact, teaching values about self empowerment through skateboarding. I thought India, with its colours and cinematic landscapes, was the place to do it.
A documentary chronicling the making of the video and the figures involved will also be released shortly.
The band have also announced a series of UK live dates:
24th Feb: Omeara, London (War Child UK Brits Week show)
29th Apr: Live at Leeds, Leeds
30th Apr: FestEVOL, Liverpool
1st May: Summerhall, Edinburgh
12th Aug: Boardmasters Festival, Cornwall
