Who or what isn’t getting political these days? The aptly-titled ‘World’s On Fire’, the debut single from Cornwall-born but London-based multi-instrumentalist Lots Holloway has perfectly captured where we are at right now, and whilst the song is brilliant, the subject matter isn’t, no matter rich it might be in terms of material and inspiration.
“I wrote it back in the summer of 2016 when a lot of strange and sad things were happening; Brexit, the Orlando shooting, the Bastille Day attack, the US presidential battle, the refugee crisis and the ongoing war in Syria, to name just a few. The song wasn’t inspired by any particular event, but more the amalgamation of them as a whole, it’s an observation of the world in which we’ve found ourselves.” Holloway explains.
Opening on a montage of images rapidly flashing across the screen, and overlayed on Holloway herself, it’s at odd with the music and vocals, which are as pretty as they are confident. The lyrics predict and warn of further impending doom, offering no solution, but perfectly capturing the very world we live in at the moment.
‘World’s On Fire’ is released 10th March. Check out more from Lots Holloway on Facebook.
