Hartlepool native and anti-folk artist James Leonard Hewitson recently followed up a successful 2016 with the release of his latest single ‘Shy of Hard Work.’ The track is Hewitson’s bounciest number to date but still maintains his signature lo-fi sound, fuzzy and charmingly ragged around the edges, with nods to Adam Green and Parquet Courts. It’s a short, sharp two minute burst of seemingly simple indie-pop with intelligent lyrics backing it up.
Hewitson has now shared the accompanying video, which is the perfect fit to the track’s lo-fi aesthetic. In it, Hewitson is captured on camera playing the track in various locations around the house, reluctant to go any further than the back garden and playing up to the song’s core concept by sometimes yawning and seeming just a little bit disinterested. It might be simple, but it’s also colourful and full of the same charm that surrounds all of Hewitson’s work. Watch the video for ‘Shy of Hard Work’ exclusively below.
