On March 20th, Newcastle-based alt-indie outfit Slow Decades are set to release their new album Hinterlands, the follow-up to 2014’s critically acclaimed record The Frost & The Concrete. Recorded, produced and engineered by Marc Bird (of art-rock outfit Yellow Creatures), the LP promises to build on the foundation of their debut, keeping things concise but still managing to closely examining the wide-ranging emotional spectrum that comes with growing up in 21st Century Britain.
The band have now shared their video for new single ‘Broadcast,’ a lilting yet musically rich and beautifully crafted meditation, characterised by melancholic melodies, striking bass riffs and a downbeat vocal performance from vocalist Ben Lowes-Smith. The video itself doesn’t take away from the reflective nature of the track, providing numerous shots of pylons and telephone masts in different locations. Though the camera almost continually points to the sky, when it does focus on ground level there’s nothing but rubble and chaos. It’s not only a visual representation of some of the lyrics, but it’s also a striking and strangely apt metaphor for these turbulent times, making it the epitome of the phrase “simple but effective.” Watch the video for ‘Broadcast’ exclusively below.
Slow Decades are performing a Hinterlands album launch show at The Cumberland Arms in Newcastle on 17th March.
