NEWS: MENT 2017 announces 23 new acts and conference programme

When: 1st-3rd February 2017
Where: Various venues, Ljubljana, Slovenia

A total of 23 new acts have been confirmed for MENT 2017, taking place in February across various venues in Ljubljana.  Among the bands confirmed include explosive American rockers Deerhoof, who will be headed to the three-day event alongside a number of European acts.

Danish singer and violinist Nils Gröndahl is also on the bill, as are contemporary electronic (with traditional Russian elements) outfit Oligarkh and critically acclaimed Belarusian producer Alnwright.  Norwegians Sauropod, electro-punks Baden-Baden and multi-instrumental German-American outfit White Wine are also set to perform.  The new additions are all joining previously announced acts such as Birthh, Coals and Haiku Garden.

Elsewhere, the festival has also announced plans for its conference programme, which will be exploring the strong Eastern European market of Poland.  There’s set to be discussion on festival programming and financing, as well as a scrunity of the term “music supervision.”  In addition, there’s set to be a questioning of the role of public relations in music, and analysis of the regional pop scene.

Panellists at the conference will include Seattle Sub Pop label boss Jonathan Poneman, Sigtryggur Baldursson, director of the Iceland Music Export office, and Kevin Cole, a driving force behind KEXP.  Daryl Bamonte, formerly a member of the teams with Depeche Mode and The Cure and now an experienced player within management and publishing, is also set to appear, as is Simon Pursehouse of Sentric Music.  Additionally, there will also be many representatives from the festival world, including for Glastonbury, EXIT and Les Rencontres Trans Musicales.

For more information on the line-up and conference, visit the MENT website.  Early bird tickets are available until 19th December.
