Austrian art rockers Chick Quest are set to release their new album Model View Controller on 24th February via Triangular Sounds. It’s the follow up to 2015’s Vs. Galore, which mixed their love of 60’s western soundtracks and post-punk into an explosive melting pot that sounded like Ennio Morricone jamming with Talking Heads and NEU!
Following on from the success of Vs. Galore, Model View Controller is set to be just as boundlessly creative, building on their solid fusion foundation to bring us even more genre-bending, danceable rock, this time with a slightly darker twist. For proof that Chick Quest haven’t lost their Midas touch, look no further than their pulsating new single ‘Savant Garde.’ Combining pulsating bass and krautrock guitars, the track gradually builds up in intensity by adding brass akin to TV On The Radio and some light synths. They say: “If you’re looking for guitar solos, ‘timeless’ love songs, or climactic anthems, then you, good sir/madam, have come to the wrong place. Instead, this is a lesson in patterns and layers, form and restraint. And if you can’t dance to it, then that’s not the song’s fault.”
It is indeed the type of track that would fill any indie dancefloor, so it’s coincidental that that’s exactly what Chick Quest do in the new video for ‘Savant Garde.’ In an empty underground club, the band perform and pull a few moves of their own before eventually being joined by a bunch of other dancers more than happy to get down to a bit of post-punk.
