Indie-pop group Allo Darlin’ decided to call it a day recently. When they announced their split, they said: It is hard to find the words to describe exactly how much fun it has been to be in Allo Darlin’, and what a privilege it has been to make records and play shows from Brisbane to Bern, Boston to Bristol. We feel extremely fortunate that we came along at a time where it was possible for a DIY bunch like us to make records and play shows without an enormous advertising budget or a proven business plan.”
They announced a string of farewell shows to say goodbye to their fans not long after, and now they’re set to release their final single ‘Hymn on the 45’ on 9th December via Fortuna POP! The track is a heartfelt number that documents starting afresh after moving to a new city, which is particularly poignant given the band’s impending split. Its B-side ‘Wanderlust’ is also a bit melancholic, ruminating on what it’s like to miss people and places when embarking on your own adventures. They’re bittersweet farewells to the band.
