Following on from the release of the storming The Disco’s Of Imhotep, Hieroglyphic Being returns with a raucous, take no prisoners track. ‘This Is 4 The Rave Bangers‘ certainly does what it says on the tin, albeit, this is rave as seen through a distinctly American prism, as opposed to a slice of screaming happy hardcore. A ferocious kick drum battles with rattling percussion and synths reminiscent of the early ’90s New York take on techno which then influenced some of the Belgian lunacy that sprang up around the same time. There’s even a background atmosphere that recalls ‘Altered States‘ by fellow Chicagoan, Ron Trent. Indeed, this, at a stretch, could just about be a crazed remix of that classic.
‘This Is 4 The Rave Bangers‘ has that pedigree. It tips its hat to an unimpeachable scene without being po-faced and precious about it. It’s riotous whilst giving knowing nods to its progenitors. A high-wire act that few can pull off. Music for the warehouse and music for the head.
Excellent stuff from the increasingly impressive Jamal Moss in his Hieroglyphic Being guise.
