Cardiff’s Tender Prey aka the wonderfully talented Laura Bryon releases her new double A-sided single DOT 3 and its double AA side with Riot of Smiles this week, they are the first tracks from her new second album ‘Falling Off Chairs’ coming out in 2017.
DOT 3 is a marvellously deceptive twisted psych-garage-pop song that’s about “holding onto love, or letting it go and dealing with the idea of apathy versus action.”
Its wonky spindly reverb drenched verses leads you down the garden path with Laura’s sweetly sinister vocals: before staggered crescendos are ignited by kick ass guitar riffing. It’s redolent of the off-kilter art-rock of Clinic and the unusual see-saw melodies of Fiery Furnaces. As luck would have it we also have the first airing of its video above, which Laura made at home, here’s what she says
“I have a new single out this week – and after deciding I had no money to make a video, I thought ‘fuck it,’ and made one myself in my glamorous bathroom studio. It’s suitably lo-fi.”
