“Edge of the Coin” is a deliciously dizzying enigmatic pop song, vivid lyrics swirl through a flight of fancy set on escaping a bad situation. Underpinned by an entire spinning Ferris wheel of spinning instrumentals, guitars riffs serrate, synths sea-saw, fired by a playful beat, rattling gleefully with memories of everyone from Lorde, Stereolab, and Bow Bow Wow. When it all collapses into a frenetic dramatic breakdown on the back of the refrain “I’m spooking myself/I’m spooking you,” about 1:30 seconds in its utterly bewilderingly brilliant.
Fauna Twin are Paris singer Claire Jacquemard and Welsh guitarist / producer Owain Ginsberg (of post-punk band Hippies Vs. Ghosts + We are Animal). This is the lead track from their new EP Hydra Debut E.P released 17th November on Crammed Discs.
“Our influences are a massive tornado of different styles, from Queen to King Crimson, crossing by PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple via R. Stevie Moore to Radiohead. This leads us to a chameleon church with no god, where we commit everyday. Fauna Twin’s music turns into a kind of hybrid shoegazish-drama-pop with a special appeal for textures, structures and constructed rhythm sections.”
