London based duo Public Service Broadcasting are set to play a special gig at Islington’s Assembly Hall on 23rd November to help raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK, the country’s leading bowel cancer research charity. The band were spurred on to play the gig due to personal circumstances, and are very keen to fundraise for the charity as well as raise awareness of their work.
As guitarist and songwriter J Willgoose Esq explained: “In late September last year my wife, Sarah, was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer at the age of 33, totally out of the blue. She has now completed her treatment and we’re hopeful for the best possible outcome, so as a band we really wanted to try to do something positive to help promote the great work Bowel Cancer UK do for patients and their families.”
For those who can’t make it to the gig, the band have also set up a Justgiving page for donations.
The band have also announced that they’ll be releasing a new live album, Live At Brixton, on 12th December. It’ll feature their sold-out performance from the Brixton Academy during the Race For Space Tour in 2015. Willgoose said of the performance: “Brixton had been a dream of mine ever since seeing the Manics there on their Everything Must Go tour many moons ago. Playing there as Public Service Broadcasting, and selling it out, was something I never even thought of as a possibility. It’s my favourite venue in the world and we wanted to make it a show to remember.”
