Held at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London, the 30th year of the DMC World Championship finals took place on 24th September. The event, which in the past has played host to Run DMC and Public Enemy, as well as Janet Jackson and James Brown, was on the search for the world’s best DJ.
This year’s event invited the likes of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Killa Kela and DJ Woody to challenge, but it was Japan’s DJ Yuto who emerged victorious. He turned hours of practice into an effortless performance, seeing him become the third Japanese DJ to win the competition. DMC founder Tony Prince was impressed and called Yuto’s performance “something they have never witnessed before in DMC history.” Elsewhere, in the head-to-head contest, Brazil’s Erick Jay emerged victorious over Japan’s DJ Fummy.
