Grammy award winning producer and singer-songwriter Imogen Heap is taking part in the seventh instalment of the Brighter Sound’s Artistic Director Series in Manchester this week. ‘The Life of a Song’ will explore the many elements involved in the creation and production of music, and will give an insight into Heap’s own processes, with a focus on cutting-edge technology, and the future of music.
Over five days, Heap is leading a residency for 12 up-and-coming songwriters, musicians, producers, entrepreneurs and video makers from across the North West. They’ll be collaborating on the creation of a mini ecosystem around specifically written music and film. It will involve her ‘Mycelia’ technique, connecting the dots for a fair and sustainable music industry ecosystem, and Blockchain technology.
Heap said of the process: “Who knows what’s going to happen but I’d like to begin the songwriting process with the morning papers, tea and discussion and perhaps by the end of the week, have a release of our recorded song and video. Alongside this, an exhibition with all the data we can possibly muster about the work. There are so many facets to being a recording artist and technology is moving so incredibly fast. It’s vital artists are brought into the front and centre for who these technologies shape our own futures.”
The project will be unveiled at a special event at Band on the Wall in Manchester on 6th October. Tickets are available from the Brighter Sound website.
