Newcastle synthpop outfit Joy Atlas have slowly been releasing a string of refined math-pop singles across the course of the last year. Fronted by singer-songwriter Beccy Owen, the band’s last single ‘Drop Your Sword’ was a slightly more minimal effort that stripped back some of the band’s harsher electronics in favour of greater subtlety. It’s a formula that’s seen them share stages with artists as diverse as John Grant, Portico and The Unthanks.
A few months down the line they’re back with a brand new single, ‘Altitude.’ Set to be released on 11th November, the track continues to show off the group’s knack for dynamic, textured pop. It’s a bit of a return to the jagged angles and rapturous synths that peppered their earlier singles, with a multitude of hooks that constantly reel you in. Listen below.
