In just a couple of weeks (on 7th October), Bergen-based indie group Chain Wallet are releasing their self-titled debut album. The album, as Frode Boris puts it, is an attempt to “capture the acute distress of an afflicted character; his self-indulgent pity, gradual loss of touch with reality and his forlorn attempts on returning to normal life. The abrupt disintegration unveils interesting tensions between urgency and inertia. The album is about fragmented memories, unfulfilled ambitions and the quiet whisper of a stranger.” They band achieve this through lo-fi soundscapes and a blend of happy-sad tunes and mournful lyrics.
The band have now shared the new video for latest single ‘Faded Fight.’ Directed by Kristian Engelsen, it follows a group of creatives as they embark on a great night out. Except, in true Chain Wallet fashion, things seem to be tinged with just a little bit of melancholia. Boris talked about the new video: “It is a video about liminality and the paradox of hedonism. It was directed by our talented chum Kristian Engelsen. We have worked with him in the past, on the video for ‘Stuck In The Fall.’ The girl is Maria, a young photographer and energy drink enthusiast. The video was in fact conceived when the director wanted to get a free tattoo from her. There are so many people in this video, and they all belong to an emerging scene celebrating creativity.” Watch below (warning: flashing lights).
