Kate McGill and Daniel Broadley, better known as indie-pop duo Meadowlark, have been busy this year. Since signing to Believe Records (home of James Vincent McMorrow and Aquilo), the pair have released a string of three singles, and have now shared another, ‘Headlights.’ It’s one of the poppiest moments from the band so far, with R&B-inspired beats but with handclaps and light acoustic guitar harking back to their more folky roots.
Despite the lightness of the track musically, though, it actually has a dark undertone. The pair have said that ‘Headlights’ is “song that looks back on a relationship and questions the decisions, the regrets and the love that came from it. Was it all really that simple? Did we really feel that way? Was it flawed from the beginning? Hindsight is a wonderful thing.” Listen below.
