Track Of The Day #921: Rodney Cromwell – Fax Message Breakup [PREMIERE]

Rodney Cromwell is the nom-de-plume of Adam Cresswell, founding member of indie-folktronica band SALOON (who had four entries in John Peel’s Festive 50 and recorded three Peel Sessions).  ‘Fax Message Breakup’ EP will be available for digital download on November 11, 2016, we have the video premiere for the title track below.

“I can’t do this anymore/I don’t know what it’s for,” sighs Cromwell insistently over a pulsing Moroder-like beat, that’s scattered with sounds from his bedroom arsenal of old synths, kids toys and guitars from Argos.  A disenchanted electronic earworm for 2016 ‘Fax Message Breakup’ is haunted by heartbreak and defeat.  Its sound settles somewhere between the precise, ghost in the machine sound of Kraftwerk, the broken fractured existential despair of casiotoneforthepainfullyalone and the stately melancholic sophistication of early Pet Shop Boys.

The EP also features four exclusive remixes. ‘Fax Message Breakup’ is remixed by HOLOGRAM TEEN (ex-STEREOLAB synth-wizardess Morgane Lhote) who brings her glitchy motorik disco sound to the party and by regular collaborator AUW, who stretches the title track into something akin to a dark Depeche Mode synth epic.

‘Fax Message Breakup’ features Alice Hubley (Arthur & Martha, Cosines) on additional synth and Richard Salt (Controllers) on guitar. The video is produced by Dariy Karyakin.‘Fax Message Breakup’ EP will be available for digital download on November 11, 2016. The album Age of Anxiety is out now on CD and digitally. Both are released by Happy Robots Records and distributed by Cargo Records.
