Polaris Prize winner and Inuit punk vocalist Tanya Tagaq is set to release her new album Retribution on 18th November. The follow up to 2014’s Animism is set to be more musically aggressive, and also more political, capturing the essence of a violent world on the verge of destruction. In addition, it promises to link the lack of respect for women’s rights with a lack of respect for both the planet and Indigenous rights. Retribution will also take a critical look at the rise of militaristic attitudes since widespread Western industrialisation.
Tagaq has now shared a new track from Retribution, ‘Centre.’ Although the LP as a whole promises fire and fury, ‘Centre’ is actually quite a playful and danceable number that features some rare lyrical moments from the Inuit singer, as well as contributions from Canadian rapper Shad. Listen below.
