On 8th September, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and Andrew Dominik (director of Killing Them Softly and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) are launching their film One More Time With Feeling. The screenings have now been extended out until 11th September, with their album Skeleton Tree being released on 9th September. While the recording of the album was the original focus of the film, and forms its central focus, Dominik also looks at the tragic backdrop of the making of the record, with narration by Cave and interviews.
Despite the record being released next week, ‘Jesus Alone’ is the first taste from it. The track itself is built on a foundation on a pulsating drone and western-like whistles, with lush orchestration and Cave’s instantly recognisable voice layered on top. The accompanying visuals gives an extra glimpse into One More Time With Feeling, filmed in stark black and white and with long, elegiac shots, reflecting the contemplative mood of the documentary as a whole.
