Cult Swedish dreampop band The Radio Dept. announced in July that they’d be releasing a brand new record, Running Out of Love, on 21st October via Labrador Records. The 10-track collection will be the band’s first new album for six years, following on from the critically acclaimed Clinging to a Scheme, and only the band’s fourth effort overall. At the time of the record’s announcement, the band stated: “Running Out Of Love has moulded itself into a rather dystopian album, mainly because it was created in a sense of deep frustration over the reactionary currents which characterize our time.”
That dystopian feeling is encapsulated within the LP’s first single, ‘Swedish Guns.’ Over a hypnotic beat, the band take aim at the Swedish arms industry, singing: “Cause who can be to blame for Swedish guns?/ A clue, it’s in the name/ A diabolic shame.” It’s a politically charged number that really sets the tone for the rest of the album.
