A couple of months ago, Newcastle-based feminist proto-punk trio Tough Tits released their debut EP Hairless. It was a furiously fast-paced collection of three tracks filled with crunching guitar, heavy bass and clashing drums that evoked the sound of X-Ray Spex and The Slits, while putting a bit of a contemporary spin on the feral vocals.
Despite only being together for six months, and possibly partly on the basis of their ferocious live shows, physical versions of the EP sold out almost instantly. However, Drunken Sailor Records (also home to many other DIY bands, such as No Ditching), approached Tough Tits’ label Frux Tapes to ask if they wanted to re-release Hairless with them on vinyl. The collaboration will see the reissue coming out on 9th September. Hairless is still available to download via Tough Tits’ Bandcamp page in the meantime.
