Next Friday, Angel Olsen will be releasing her much anticipated third full-length album MY WOMAN via Jagjaguwar. It’s effectively split up into an A-side and B-side format, with punchier numbers up front and slower, more contemplative tracks towards the end. Olsen has already shared two A-side tracks – ‘Shut Up Kiss Me’ and ‘Intern’ – and is now presenting another taste of the record, the reverb-drenched ‘Sister,’ alongside a video directed by Conor Hagen.
The clip was shot in Los Angeles and the Joshua Tree National Park, representing the dualities expressed by the song itself. Olsen says: “I wanted to keep from cutting these shots up too much. I wanted to slow frames down just enough for the cinematography to make its own statement. My aim was to gather a mixture of very different themed material, and somehow take a look at the synchronicity that material naturally brought forward.”
Hagen explains: “’Sister’ addresses conflict within and then moves beyond it. The song is lyrically contradictory, so we wanted to show those opposing dualities. The contrast between a wide shot and a close-up, the duality between the city and that natural world, joy and melancholy.” Watch below.
