Micko Westmoreland has come to us in many guises over the years, including playing Jack Fairy in the film Velvet Goldmine. He’s also the mastermind behind electronic project The Bowling Green and a post punk artist in his own right. He’s now just released a new 14-track mix, which also highlights some of the best cuts from his ‘Remixes’ collection and cuts from two recently re-released Bowling Green albums.
The opening track of the collection features a special guest in the form of Alison Goldfrapp. ‘A Synchronised Swim’ was originally part of Westmoreland’s final university project, with Goldfrapp providing her usual, distinctively lush vocals. The finished track perfectly combines her ethereal voice with Westmoreland’s own, unique style of electronica.
Micko says of the track: “I used to hang out with Alison Goldfrapp – she came to my first Bowling Green gig and she sang on a couple of tunes too. I wrote this track for my graduation film, it was to accompany a synchronised swimmer sequence. We got up at 4:30 in the morning to film in an art deco pool miles away. Alison has a great voice and a wonderfully dry sense of humour, this track was recorded around the same period that she worked with Orbital and Tricky in a tiny flat off the Holloway Road.“
