Five Grand Stereo didn’t hold back when they called their debut EP David Bowie, wearing their influences on their sleeve like a badge of honour. The EP saw them updating classic sounds to take aim at societal issues of 2016, including everything from Page 3 to the “Big Society.”
For ‘Clip Joint (Soho),’ the band recall a time when they took a somewhat accidental (and kind of disastrous) trip to one of the district’s more dubious establishments. It draws on the band’s major influences of Bowie, Elvis Costello and Marc Bolan but also has something of a flavour of Pulp about it. It’s a catchy little number that’s filled with power pop conventions and sprightly performances from the whole band, something that’s only reflected in the accompanying video, where everyone seems to be having a jolly good time.
