Sound artist and producer Ben Chatwin is officially releasing his new album Heat & Entropy tomorrow (29th July) via Ba Da Bing Records. Ahead of its launch, he’s making the whole album available to stream via SoundCloud.
The new record sees Chatwin – who previously released music under the name Talvihorros – experimenting with the physical creation of music. Initially intended to be an album using only strings, the idea forced him to search out instruments that were lesser-known and unusual. He even experimented with the way that he played instruments and objects, attached pieces of metal, rubber and tape to piano strings to alter their sound, and playing electric guitar with a £1 coin. As Chatwin puts it: “The album then became about the tensions between the acoustic, or natural world, and the electronic world.”
He also calls Heat & Entropy “an album of contrast, conflict and chaos, but also of complex relationships.” Listen below.
