Frontman of The Charlatans Tim Burgess and acclaimed producer Peter Gordon announced recently that they’ll be releasing a collaborative record, Same Language, Different Worlds, on 2nd September via Burgess’ own label O Genesis. The album is set to feature many of the pair’s previous collaborators, including Ernie Brooks (who worked on Arthur Russell’s Modern Lovers), trombonist Peter Zummo, conga player Mustafa Ahmed and one half of Factory Floor, Nik Void.
The pair have now shared a track from the LP, called ‘Begin.’ It’s built on a foundation of classic synths, beats and jangly guitar, yet Burgess’ vocals add a touch of melancholy to the song. Listen below.
When the album was first announced, Burgess spoke about working with Gordon: “What I love about working with Peter is that in the late 70s with Peter Zummo and Arthur Russell and all the New York cats at The Kitchen, they were all making futuristic records.” He continued: “Now Peter in his mid-60s is still looking to do that. It’s the world I want to be in.”
The pair will be doing a brief tour of the UK in September, which includes an appearance at this year’s Festival No. 6 in Portmeirion. Details below.
1st September – Hare & Hounds, Birmingham
1nd September – Gorilla, Manchester
3rd September – Festival No. 6, Portmeirion
4th September – Brudenell Social Club, Leeds
6th September – Kamio Club, London
