NEWS: The Veils unveil new single ‘Low Lays the Devil’

In the run up to the release of their new album Total Depravity (which features production from El-P) on 26th August, five-piece rock group The Veils have shared new song ‘Low Lays the Devil.’  A partly-blues, partly-grunge number, the song is driven by heavy percussion and fuzzy vocals, making it a real foot-stomper.  Lead singer Finn Andrews said: “It’s a song about The Evil One, Big King Below, Beelzebub, the fallen angel, Mephistopheles, Mr. Moonshine.  It’s got a beat as big as a house and it’s coming for you in your sleep.”  Listen below.

Speaking on the album’s production, Andrews said: “Over a period of roughly two years an album began to take shape.  There is a large cast of characters on this record.  L. Ron Hubbard, Axolotls of course, kind natured crocodiles, a psychotic truck driver, The Pope and Ingrid Bergman all get a look in.  The songs are all stories of various kinds; some experienced first hand, others fabricated for my own amusement.  It’s the first time I’ve ever written songs using mutilated loops and sounds as a starting point, though some of the songs also began on piano and were messed with later.”

Andrews is also one of a handful of musicians who will be appearing in David Lynch’s reboot of Twin Peaks.  He’ll be cast alongside other artists such as Eddie Vedder, Trent Reznor, Sharon van Etten and Sky Ferreira.

The Veils will play at London’s Koko on 25th October.
