Last year, Stockholm duo Korallreven called it quits, after six years, two albums and numerous collaborations with the likes of Julianna Barwick and Arca. Fans of the band needn’t have despaired. Marcus Joons and Daniel Tjäder returned a few weeks ago with a new single ‘Pet Shop Boys’ under the moniker Yoo-Yoo.
Now, just a couple of weeks along the line, Yoo-Yoo are back with another cut, ‘Eye of the Eye.’ The track is unsurprisingly ’80s tinged, containing light house synths and the Balearic percussion that often made Korallreven such a joy to listen to. But whereas ‘Pet Shop Boys’ was vaguely reminiscent of Lemon Jelly, ‘Eye of the Eye’ has more in common with the beachy vibes of 808 State. It’s still far from being a throwback, though. Its wordless choir and unrelenting beats give the track a pulsating, contemporary edge that’s as great to listen to on your daily commute as it is in the club.
‘Eye of the Eye’ is out now.
