Formed last year by singer Cathy Lucas, of Innerspace Orchestra and Fanfarlo, Vanishing Twin (formerly known as Orlando) have quickly set about making quintessentially English pop featuring arkestral sounds. Now they’ve announced that their debut record Choose Your Own Adventure will be released on 16th September via Soundway Records. The album has been created with the help of producer Malcolm Catto (who has previously worked with DJ Shadow) at the Quatermass Sound Lab.
The eight tracks combine pop conventions with improvisational elements and varying structures, intended to describe a mythology of the adventures of Lucas’ twin, who vanished in utero when the pair were just a cluster of cells. Its first single ‘The Conservation of Life’ perfectly captures this narrative and musical aesthetic, looking into the cyclical and often transferrable energy of life. It’s accompanied by a video directed by Elliott Arndt, featuring illustrations by Lucas. Watch below.
