It’s the middle of June and by all accounts we should be basking in a decent amount of sun. Alas, this is Britain and our natural source of vitamin D is in typically short supply. The latest track by producer Haux captures this conflict wonderfully. While on the surface you might be expecting ‘Seaside’ to be a sunny, uplifting experience, what you actually get it something quite a bit more subdued.
Woodson Black, the mastermind behind Haux, creates a beautiful soundscape of ambient guitars and atmospheric whirls, topped off by his own silky smooth, breathy voice. The heavy use of reverb and sparse trap beats is deeply reminiscent of James Blake at his most minimalist. It’s a track that does transport you to the seaside, albeit a British beach on a cold day. But that frostiness is somehow really comforting.
‘Seaside’ is out now via Akira Records.
