Ani Glass‘ ‘Y Ddawns’ – Welsh for The Dance – fades in piece by piece and then the sweet but strong vocals – with lyrics sung entirely in Welsh – begin. There’s a touch of 1980s pop to the music – the good stuff – to everything with those pips and fuzzy beats, and yet it still manages to sound fresh and modern. Its title is such a good fit! The backing vocals swirl back and forth, and actually, when all of that is put together, it sounds like something Annie Lennox would be insanely jealous of. It ends as it begins with muted beats and what appears to be the sound of life and birdsong.
The creative and imaginative accompanying video is as stunning as it is intoxicating, everything awashed with grey – with an occasional pop of a golden-hued haze – and yet the song itself shines through bright and multicoloured regardless.
‘Y Ddawns’ is available to buy from 27th June. In the meantime, check out Ani on Facebook
