Whether they have sat on ‘Set The Fire’ for months or the timing of its release is purely coincidental, Swimming Tapes have written the perfect track for the first days and nights of summer.
Though being the work of a quintet based in London it has a certain Scandinavian flavour. The schematics of the track bring to mind early Mew and the juxtaposition between the rhythm section and the vocals bear a strong resemblance to The Radio Dept, and fans of both will find much to enjoy here, as will anyone with a penchant for dream pop and C86.
There is nothing new here – parallels can easily be drawn to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and bands of a similar ilk, but what it may lack in originality it more than makes up for in hooks and infectious melodies.
