Everything really cool right now seems to be about standing up, being heard and fighting back against injustice wherever it comes from and whatever form it takes. Some would say it’s about time, really. But this is not a rehash of past or imagined injustices. Beyonce, anyone? The same applies to UK rockers Counterfeit and their single, ‘Enough’, which sees its official release today.
Lead guitarist and vocalist Jamie Campbell Bower explains: “The band and myself were in the studio recording the instrumental for this single when the attacks on Paris, and most notably the Bataclan happened. The song originally was about something completely different but upon seeing the horror and savagery inflicted on innocent people, I couldn’t let myself not attempt to say anything. Even though this song is born out of one specific incident I wanted to try and address the unnecessary presence of evil that exists within our society today and the frustration and relative anger that, that has inflicted on an entire generation. Above anything, this song is about acceptance and love. We consider it our marching anthem.”
‘Enough’ has it all; the requisite angst and bite needed to be heard and taken seriously, and the potential to change and challenge as well as being a fun, loud, ballsy track. ‘Enough’ could become more than a marching anthem for Counterfeit; as the tides turn, it could – and maybe even should – become the battle cry of the nation.
