Under normal circumstances, the term ‘electro-pop’ conjures up the fun, the slightly twee (sometimes), and the kind of tune that would go down well in the average club night. Then again, sometimes something comes along that surprises and San Fransisco trio MOSAICS‘ ‘Year Of Valour’ falls into the latter category.
It starts on a folk-like twang in its intro – that continues throughout – and then a steady beat begins. The vocals are sweet and damn near perfect, bringing a touch of light to a tune that treads in the shadows. Drawing comparisons with UK indie band alt-J, while you can hear that in ‘Year Of Valour’, they make it something else, and well, far less boring. It’s not your typical electro-pop sound making it interesting and memorable against the many other ‘electro-pop’ releases of recent months and years. Really, if they keep this up, MOSAICS will be one worth watching out for.
‘Year Of Valour’ is the title track and first single from their EP expected on 20th May.
