Dates: 19th – 21st August 2016
Location: Cardross Estate, Stirlingshire
It may be only a 3,000 capacity family event but Doune The Rabbit Hole certainly knows how to pack a mean punch. With a truly international bill, this year’s festival presents one of the most alluring line ups in one of the most beautiful settings a festival can have.
In 2015 Glaswegian classically-trained musician C Duncan burst onto the scene with a Mercury nomination for his debut album Architect. With a new EP and a new album in the pipeline his bucolic and pastoral sound is likely to be a big hit at this year’s Doune The Rabbit Hole. Japanese duo Sax Ruins vie with Awesome Tapes From Africa for some full-on, gleeful vibes. Rough Trade recent signing Jeffrey Lewis brings his wry observations on New York, and Blanck Mass seem a reasonable bet to flatten the crowd into dancefloor submission. Welsh songstress Cate Le Bon brings her wistfulness to proceedings with a little calm splendour. In short, from the distinctly horizontal efforts of Mungo’s HiFi to the distinctly frothy endeavours of DJ Clap! Clap! Doune offers a pretty comprehensive musical mix.
Throw in theatre, art, spoken word, workshops for both kids and adults and it’s a heady brew at one of the few truly singular festivals around. Add excellent food and drink from local producers and suppliers; and (hopefully) a midge-free few days and things look rather rosy.
