Never ones to sit still, The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die (TWIABP) have released brand new track ‘Katamari Duquette’ from their forthcoming 7-inch split single Long Live Happy Birthday, which comes out on Topshelf Records on March 25th.
The title of the new song is actually a reference to Kevin Duquette, one of the co-founders of Topshelf, as well as a reference to a Japanese video game series. However, where the title might be a bit of an in-joke, the song is typically serious and dramatic, dealing with themes of institutional corruption and abandoning old memories.
The song was recorded at the same time as their last album, Harmlessness, and imparts an ‘us against them’ feeling prevalent on that album, as the track builds towards its dramatic conclusion following a sudden drop with the chanted “Away with God/Away with love”.
We can only hope that TWIABP have a few more in their locker tucked away from these sessions if they’re all as good as this.
