Dates: 18th – 21st August 2016
Location: Brecon Beacons, Wales
Green Man is returning for its 14th year to the misty and mysterious Black Mountains of South Wales with another heart-melting line-up headed up by the imperious Belle & Sebastian, the magical melancholy of James Blake and the haunting Cumbrian pop beauty of Wild Beasts.
One way to judge a festival is to see how many performers come back to play it. Whilst giving voice to many new artists and cult music figures, Green Man certainly doesn’t disappoint here, with artists like Fat White Family, Julia Holter, Songhoy Blues and Jagwar Ma all back for another round of Green Man magic.
Unlike many festivals that appear to have little connection with their settings, Green Man has always been proud of its Welsh origins, showcasing Welsh music and culture. This year will continue this noble tradition with sets from God is in the TV’s favourites Cate Le Bon and Meilyr Jones and undoubtedly many more Welsh artists to be added to the bill.
Over the years, the festival has developed a reputation for genre diversity and 2016 is clearly following the same progression: from Jason Isbell‘s unique take on Americana to Michael Rother‘s Krautrock experimentalism, Ezra Furman‘s rock’n’roll alchemy and slow-rising epiphanies of Floating Points’ 11-piece band, 2016 is looking like another Green Man vintage year already.
August might seem like a distant dot on the horizon right now, so use your time wisely and familiarise yourself with all the acts playing this year’s festival on the GM16 Spotify Playlist.
