A couple of years ago, Money appeared, seemingly from nowhere, with their extraordinary debut album The Shadow Of Heaven. Released on the ever-wonderful Bella Union label, it won rave reviews from all corners, but this possibly didn’t equal as many sales as the record deserved.
In January, they will be releasing their second album, Suicide Songs, and it promises to have a more organic feel than its predecessor’s lushly atmospheric, expansive and indeed expensive sound.
‘I’ll Be The Night’ has been offered forth as the first taste of the new record, and it is a majestic, if certainly more earthy-sounding, song. Beginning with acoustic guitar, when the strings appear the track sounds like it could fit comfortably onto a This Mortal Coil album, with just a hint of The Veils thrown in for good measure. Money are a really special band and ‘I’ll Be The Night’ is a compelling peek into where they are headed next.
