Despite the fact that they have now been around for some six years, The Self Help Group continue to be one of West Sussex’s best kept musical secrets. The Brighton outfit are now on the verge of releasing their second album Dead Stars, the follow up to 2013’s Not Waving, But Drowning.
To herald the arrival of Dead Stars comes The Self Help Group’s new single ‘Luigi’s Waltz’. Accompanied by a video by Grant Wilkinson the combination of sound and vision reveals the most perfect of dichotomies. Much more American West Coast than English South Coast, the sweet, beautiful three-part harmonies of the song speak of glorious summer sunshine. The images of small children in animal masks, by way of contrast, presents a vaguely sinister, disturbing counterpoint which points towards the much darker lyrical content that it is inherent on the new record.
Dead Stars is released 6th November 2015 via the Union Music Store.
