At a time when Britain swelters under the hottest July day on record, and with seemingly perfect prescience, Cristobal and the Sea unveil their brand new single ‘Sunset of our Troubles’. Following on from their five-track EP debut Peach Bells – released last December and reviewed here – the London-based quartet with the international pedigree of Alejandro ‘Ale’ Romero (bass, vocals, Spain), João Seixas (guitar, vocals, Portugal), Leïla Seguin (flute, vocals, Corsica/France) and Joshua Oldershaw (drums, UK) continue with their quest to bring us a joyful sound with a huge beatific smile on their face.
‘Sunset of our Troubles’ is the first track to be taken from their forthcoming debut album, Sugar Now. A tumult of musical ideas, the song draws together the disparate strands of gossamer folk, pop, acoustic rock, some mild psychedelia and the softest shoe-shuffle of bossa nova into one cohesive swell of loveliness.
Sugar Now is set for release on 2nd October via City Slang.
