With his White Denim mothership temporarily in dry dock, the Texan rockers’ frontman James Petralli has used his shore leave to create his debut record. Under the guise of Bop English he has just released the album Constant Bop. In marked contrast to the time that it took to record the entire White Denim discography – six albums in sixty months – Constant Bop has been some four years in the making.
And Petralli’s eye for detail is reflected in this much longer gestation period. He has used the time to absorb a myriad of musical influences and shape them into his very own ten top tunes. And ‘Struck Matches’ is but one of these distinctive tunes. It hits the ground running from the get-go and rattles along a country road lickety-split, nodding to the likes of Stealers Wheel, The Eagles and Revolver-era Beatles along the way, as it rejoices in the sheer freedom of its sound.
Constant Bop was released on 13th April 2014 via Blood and Biscuits.
