Track Of The Day #663: Dialects – ‘Restless Earth’

Dialects - 1Not to be confused with an American progressive metal band of the same name, Dialects are from Glasgow and they trade in the softer currencies of experimental math and post-rock. On ‘Restless Earth’, the Scots quartet of Conor Anderson and Steven Gillies on guitars, bassist Ali Walker and drummer Jonny Gormley melt down these core elements  into one huge instrumental sound. And with a clear emphasis upon impassioned melody and swooning signature changes, they doff their collective cap towards a world that brings together precision and expressionism.

‘Restless Earth’ is the opening track from Dialects’ forthcoming debut EP LTKLTL. The band explain that the song “tells the start of the story behind the EP. A couple who travel from Utopia in another universe only to arrive in our world, young again and with the chance to have another life together. But really it’s just portals and shit.”

LTKLTL (or, to give it its full title, ‘Let The Kids Light These Lanterns’) will be released on 11th May 2015.
