A drum machine beat that thuds like a heartbeat, shrouded in a gaze flecked distorted mist: that’s pierced by Clio’s infinitely elegant vocals that bristle with sad eye’d mantras. That are the aural equivalent of opening a window upon existential angst, reflecting the desolation of loneliness and empty urban landscapes(‘I really don’t know what’s happening to me’). These are the elements that make up Scottish trio Le Thug‘s gut shaking, gorgeously affecting new song ‘Basketball Land’. The combined affect conjures to mind the early work of the Cocteau Twins or Slowdive rendered through the prism of youth.
