Dan Mangan + Blacksmith have just unveiled the third track from their forthcoming debut album Club Meds. Following in the slipstream of ‘Mouthpiece’ and the album’s lead single ‘Vessels’, the song ‘Kitsch’ is everything that the modern interpretation of that word is not. It is pure, it is true and it is unashamedly pragmatic.
Built upon a polyrhythmic axis of bass and drums, the melody is a beautiful, beguiling swirl of synths and guitar over which Dan Mangen’s voice searches for meaning. As a further harbinger of Club Meds it promises much.
On Club Meds, the Vancouver-based musician Dan Mangan has joined forces with Blacksmith (the core of which is Kenton Loewen on drums, guitarist Gordon Grdina and John Walsh on bass). The album will be released on 12th January next year via City Slang in Europe and Arts & Crafts in North America.
