Syd Arthur are a boundary breaking psychedelic band who are descending upon Proud Camden to play an exclusive show at the private view of Kevin Cummins: Assassinated Beauty on Thursday 6th November. Tess Parks will also perform an intimate but expansive set and her spooky, subtle, but affecting compositions will leave you dumbfounded with a posterior knowledge.
To round off the evening of quality live music and genre defining photography, the official Oasis tour DJ Phil Smith will be playing an eclectic array of records to ensure that the vibe never drops.
The music follows the private view of Assassinated Beauty, an exhibition of Manic Street Preachers by seminal music photographer Kevin Cummins. Cummins has been responsible for some of the most memorable NME covers ever, and his images of Joy Division, Morrissey, and indeed Manic Street Preachers are as integral to the bands history as their music is. Manic Street Preachers are one of the most iconoclastic bands of the late twentieth century and their androgynous identity is stark and exciting in the collection on display at Proud Camden on Thursday 6th November.

“Gaining critical acclaim from MOJO as “Canterbury’s dazzling new sons” Syd Arthur the four-piece hark back to the great British rock bands of the 60s, whilst progressively expanding the limits of their music with flashes of jazz, funk and folk. The band are easy to love; with smooth fuzzy licks and soulful vocal wails, the drums provide melodic syncopation that is uplifting and danceable, whilst still being still dark and ‘far-out’. There’s definitely a bluesy affliction, but not in an unhinged way that is so on-trend right now. Syd Arthur don’t sensationalise, they play a riff, own it and that’s enough.
Syd Arthur have already worked with some giants of the music scene, including multiple GRAMMY® winner Tom Elmhirst (Adele,U2, Arcade Fire), and having recently embarked on a North American tour, they come to Proud on a wave of hype. With a very limited number of guest list available, the night is about as sought after as they come.
Singer songwriter Tess Parks will be joining Syd Arthur on the night. Hailing from Toronto, Canada, her songs loom with hypnotic edgy progressions that echo her weaving geographical history. She moved to the UK when she was 17, and it was during her time in London she became acquainted with Alan McGee, the founder of Creation and Poptones Records. McGee has helped guide the careers of the Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine, two acts that you can hear in the soaring reverb-y darkness of Parks’ music. McGee signed her to his new label, 359 Music, and released her first full-length album, Blood Hot in November 2013.”
